We are in the process of building a new forum on simpleforums (and pleased to say it has been simple so far!!) However, I have set the forum to be unable to be viewed by guests. However, i still have a guest on the board - including now apparently editing the ban list!! (i banned the IP) They have gone just now but googled the IP and they are banned from numerous forums!!
As a complete novice what is happening and what do I need to do to prevent it?!
Thanks in advance!!

There is no reason to be alarmed by this. Here's a breakdown of what's happening.
SMF stores session data. This session data includes usernames, page viewed, etc.
Just because SMF says 'this user is here', doesn't mean they're actually here, or there. The ban list is only accessible to logged in administrators. If you're not logged in, you're going to be prompted to login.
The same goes to viewing forums. SMF will log the fact that the guest user is viewing a forum, or trying to. As well, it will try to store the page viewed in the session.
In short, there's nothing wrong with this. However, if you will pm me the IP address, I will most happily ensure that the ip is banned from accessing anything on the server if it checks out.

i think it was the fact we have set it up so only registered people can see anything (and we have yet to have any members joined yet that worried me a little. I will pm the ip - they appear to have a friend now too!!
